September 2021 Studio Time

Welcome to the first installment of Studio Time! This month’s prompt is In the Garden: Creatures and Critters. My inspiration came from a beauuutiful sphinx moth that my son pointed out on our window. I love how his curiosity sparked my own creative exploration!

I’ve made a little video to show you my process. I hope you’ll grab your favorite art supplies and create alongside me. I can’t wait to see what you create! Leave a picture in the comments. or email me at hello@tarawrightstudio.com.

Curious about my supplies? Here’s what I used:

  • I love this sketchbook from 1Canoe2. While it’s not watercolor paper, the paper is really thick and holds water relatively well. I know it can handle gouache, and I’d imagine thicker paints such as acrylic would be lovely too.

  • Winsor & Newton watercolors are a great choice. This travel set is my go-to at the moment.

  • I’ve been loving my size 12 round brush. It’s big so it holds lots of water. For more detailed paintings, I go for a size 6 round brush.
